The Ultimate Irish Road Trip for Summer

The Wild Atlantic Way is the ultimate Irish road trip which covers over 1600 miles of the beautiful Irish Atlantic coast line, featuring rare wildlife and inviting beaches; it's something you definitely don’t want to miss out on this summer.

The route starts at the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal and makes its way around the extremities of the Atlantic coast line working its way down through the counties Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry and finishing in Kinsale in County Cork. The trip is usually broken down into 14 different legs.

There are plenty of stand out locations on this road trip from start to end. Malin Head is one of the first beautiful locations you can reach on this trip and it is also the most northern point of the island and you can look out across the rocky crags and appreciate the vast ocean in front of you and even take a wander down to Hell’s Hole which is an enchanting sea cave where you can see the atlantic crashing against the rocks.

Before making your way down to Galway you can stop off in the town of Westport which is the home of Aran Mills and you can experience the surrounding areas which inspired the beautiful clothing that we know and love.

Galway is another great stop along the Wild Atlantic Way which allows you a break from the breathtaking cliff top views and beautiful sandy beaches to indulge yourself in the lively atmosphere and music of Ireland, there are plenty of sights to see in Galway. Not too far from Galway there is the picturesque castle Dunguaire which sits in the Galway Bay and is a perfect opportunity for another stop to take in the lovely views and learn more about the history of Ireland.

The Sheep’s Head is a beautiful peninsula set out on the coast in County Cork  which is a path less travelled by large tour groups so it can allow you peace from the business off some of the destinations. Once you reach this peninsula then you can take a wander across the craggy yet beautiful routes to a lighthouse set out on the cliffs high above the Atlantic.

Once you have made your way all the way down and around the Mezin Peninsula you can head for the ending point of Kinsale and have a nice relaxing end to your trip in this lovely bustling town.

If you are travelling around the Irish coast then you won’t want to be caught cold in the wind so make sure to grab your Aran Mills essentials before you head. Here are some of our favourites;
